Volk Donations was founded on a single, uncompromising belief: that every child, regardless of circumstance, deserves a dignified life. We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit operating across 38 countries, with over $4.2 million raised and more than 2,400 children reached since 2010.
In 2009, Volk Donations co-founder Daniel Volk spent three weeks volunteering at an underfunded orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya. What he encountered — children sleeping four to a bed, classrooms without textbooks, medical needs going unmet for months — was not a crisis born of scarcity. It was a crisis born of neglect.
He returned to the United States and spent the following year in conversation with international development experts, social workers, and former NGO directors. The consensus was consistent: the infrastructure existed to change outcomes for orphaned children. What was lacking was reliable, transparent, targeted funding from people who genuinely cared.
Volk Donations was incorporated in Delaware in March 2010. The founding charter committed the organisation to three non-negotiable principles: transparency in all financial reporting, local partnership in all programme delivery, and zero tolerance for administrative waste above 4%.

Every milestone in our history was earned, not announced.
Volk Donations registered as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a founding board of five and a first-year budget of $18,400. The inaugural programme, a school feeding initiative in Kibera, Nairobi, served 80 children daily within six weeks of launch.
Operations extended to Cambodia and Bangladesh, adding medical relief and clean water programmes respectively. Annual revenue crossed $200,000 for the first time. Chief Operations Officer Priya Mehta joined the leadership team from UNICEF.
Volk Donations received the GuideStar Platinum Seal of Transparency — the highest independent recognition of nonprofit accountability in the United States. Administrative costs held at 3.8% of total revenue, below the 4% charter commitment.
Cumulative fundraising exceeded $1 million. The organisation had reached over 600 children across 12 countries and launched its first technology literacy programme in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The launch of the Volk Donor Portal provided real-time impact tracking, recurring giving management, and direct programme updates to over 1,400 registered donors. Monthly recurring donations grew by 340% in the first year post-launch.
Today Volk Donations operates 14 active programmes across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The organisation is on track to reach its 2027 target of 5,000 children across 50 countries — a milestone that will represent a complete transformation from the single classroom in Kibera where it all began.

To mobilise transparent, accountable funding from individuals, families, and organisations worldwide, and to channel that funding — through rigorously selected local partners — into programmes that deliver measurable, lasting improvement in the lives of orphaned children across the developing world.
We exist because the systems that should protect the most vulnerable children have failed them. Volk Donations does not seek to replace those systems. We seek to demonstrate — one child, one community, one programme at a time — what is possible when generosity is paired with rigour. Every decision we make, from which programmes to fund to how we report our finances, is made in the service of that purpose.

We publish full audited financials annually, programme-level expenditure quarterly, and impact metrics in real time through our donor portal. We hold a GuideStar Platinum rating and maintain administrative costs below 4%. Donors have the right to know exactly where every dollar goes — and we make that effortless.
We do not impose solutions from the outside. Every programme Volk funds is designed, staffed, and led by organisations based in the communities they serve. Our role is to provide resources, accountability frameworks, and strategic support — never to override local knowledge with external assumptions.
Programme funding is not awarded on sentiment or narratives alone. Every initiative Volk supports must demonstrate measurable baseline conditions, a credible theory of change, and a reporting framework that allows us to evaluate impact against stated objectives. We fund what works, and we stop funding what does not.
Every partner organisation we work with must meet our Child Safeguarding Standards, independently developed in consultation with UNICEF guidelines and child protection specialists. No programme receives continued funding without annual safeguarding review. The protection of the children we serve is the non-negotiable floor beneath every other consideration.
We do not run short-term relief operations for the purpose of fundraising photography. Our programmes are designed with 3–5 year minimum horizons, because sustainable change in child welfare requires sustained investment. We measure success in outcomes — school enrolment rates, health indicators, long-term child safety — not in donation volumes.
The children and families we work with are not recipients of charity. They are rights-holders. Every communication we produce — public or internal — is reviewed to ensure it portrays programme beneficiaries with full dignity, avoiding the exploitation of vulnerability that is sadly common in fundraising. We raise money through truth, not pity.
